I'am trying to get some idea of what my shop heat bill will be.30x60 building with main shop area at 19' ceiling ht. about 1000 ft.rest of building is paint booth, office and parts storage so ceiling hts are less. Do plan to install two ceiling fans to bring heat down. R-19 in side walls r-50 in ceiling,in floor heat with 2" ins. under floor and sides.1800 ft of pex with gas boiler.shop set at 50-55. My last gas bill for the house which is a newer home with about 3600 ft was $106. for last part of nov and frist half of dec. Average temp rating for month is listed as 31 degrees. Think I can heat shop for half of what it cost to heat the house? One well insulated 14x14 overhead,& one 10x10, and 3 2x3ft windows double pane. 2 3ft walk through doors. Its a morton pole building. In mns so it gets cold been about 0 to 5 below at night this week.

For all the information you gave, you did not give enough to give an answer to your question. What is the price of gas in your area? Are you running it all the time at 50-55? I assume so with in floor heat, but maybe not. With in floor heat it will matter less, but still matters some how much you will be driving vehicles in and out and having the doors open. You have lots of insulation in the ceiling (R-50) and walls (R-19). I am assuming sealed pretty tight but perhaps not.

Anyway there are several calculators in the Internet that will give you some ideas. Do you have gas bills from the same time a year ago. You can keep an eye on the meter (or meters if house and shop on separate meters) so you are not completely surprised by your first bill.

Looks like you are thinking $2-$3 for day for heat for your building and I would that is very (very) reasonable for Minnesota.

Wish you the best.

The house used 4.1 therms per day at a cost of .77 a therms. Shop is tight with everything well insulated includeing doors and windows. Tin on ceiling and osb on walls with vapor bearier under each. Dont open doors a lot maybe a few min. ever couple days. Doing body work on the side in it and most small jobs take about that long part time. Have a hanging heater for booth when I'am painting and I realize that will raise the bill some depending on how much I use it.Heater is in main shop area and heat is ducted into booth so no flame in booth. also backup heat for shop if needed.
