Heat gun suggestions

My HF finally kicked it. I use it for recovering heat shrink tubing, drying stuff off, heating up parts for assembly - all in service of auto restoration work.

I like good stuff, stuff made not in china, but am not making a living with it and just blew some cash on a nice CDI torque wrench. Sooo... any suggestions below ~$150?

All my cordless stuff is Bosch but I'm not seeing current offerings.

I have a Master Appliance, 25 yo, not sure you would get the same quality anymore but it was worth the investment for me.

Which HF model did you have? The Cheapo Drill Master/Warrior or the higher quality Chicago Electric? I was in HF a few days ago, noticed they had the Chicago Electric Heat Guns on Clearance for $37. Not sure what they usual price is, but it looked like a good tool for the money. Pretty big step up from that Drill Master/Warrior for sure.

Most companies seem to use Steinel guns (Snap-On, Matco, Metabo, Bosch.....)

keep in mind when making a purchase....you get what you pay for....you pay cheap....you get cheap.

Not necessarily with a heat gun. I was given a cheap HF gun and it has worked great for the last five years.

I treat it like I stole it and don't give a damn about it but it works and keeps working as it should.

I own two Master Appliance's but still use the HF cheapie a lot.

Ha same experience here. Only replacing my HF after tossing it about a dirt slab conc floor for upwards of five years. Also cmon guy that is like the most generic advice of all time, we all get it.

I have an old $10 HF gun and it works. Going up in price, the Porter Cable or a few variable temp generics on Amazon. Makita makes a nice one for ~$130 with a temp LCD readout for someone that appreciates fancy stuff. I'd like to eventually get the makita.

Right now I'm loving my new dewalt cordless heat gun, I have a couple corded but this one is working out great. It's nice that it has 2 settings & a trigger lock, plus it came with 2 nozzles.

I have an old Dayton heat gun that dad passed down to me. He used it for decades, now I am using it. Still cooks anything you point it at. It is red with aluminum snout heat shield. Wooden handle too if I recall

I also upgraded after a few years of using the cheap HF heat gun without many complaints. I found a Craftsman Steinel rebrand a year or two ago on eBay for ~$40 and it's noticeably better than the HF version for not a ton of money. As others have pointed out there are a lot of Steinel rebrands available for well under $100 and personally that seems like the best value option for the type of work you're looking to do.

Steinel from McMaster for $47. I like it. Made in Moldova if anyone is curious. IMG_0651.jpg
