call the guy with the most trucks and been in business since 1976. hvac is all about reputation, you need someone that will be around for warrenty. There is not much different between units, its all service and reputation. anybody been around 40 years know how to treat their customers. even if you have to pay more, its all reputation

I've put two new units in my building in the last two years. Each one foir a different office. Both were Goodmans and they have worked fine. A friend of mine that is able to order any make and installs them told me that many brands are just copies of each other.

I am using Goodman now to replace older units on most of my rental properties and they are reliable and reasonably priced. The outside units are now well built with sheet metal grills unlike the old ones with wire mesh type which don't protect the coil and fins. Get the 15 SEER or higher if this is for your residence. Make sure you get someone who has been around in the business for a while for warranty work as mentioned by brownbagg.

Well it turns out the fan on the outdoor unit went bad. But the unit is 13 years old and with an 8-10 SEER so I've been wanting to replace it anyways so I ended up going with a Local Company that just celebrated their 20th year in business. We negotiated a good deal so I got an 4 ton 15 Seer variable speed Amana unit which is made by the same company as the Goodman for $5200 and I qualify for a $1500 stimulis relief in next year taxes. It came with a 10 year Parts and Labor warranty. They'll be here on tuesday for the install. But its in the 90's here in MD right now so I was concerned about time in the house until them. He told me to buy a cheap box fan, remove the exsiting fan and disconnect it put the box fan on top of the unit and it may just work! Well I gave it a shot and the house is cooling down as I type!!!! It looks like a West Virginia Mountain rigg but its working good so far!!!

The condenser fan repair is an easy diy project. Probably just a 35-5 microfarad dual start capacitor that only costs about $20. Or a burnout fan motor about $60 at most.
Good luck!
