Heat Pump for large space cooling

I am looking at the various options for HVAC in my building. The building is in Hutchinson Ks and it is a metal building with several smaller brick buildings attached. I want to partition about 10000 sq ft and condition it. The space is the lowest ceiling area in the building and I will insulate it and install a drop ceiling that ranges from 10 feet to 15 feet high. The water table here is around 45-75 feet and I have a 200X400 foot lot.

I understand that heat pump systems are more costly up front but are far more efficient, I pay crazy demand charges so lower operating cost return quickly. The summer temps here are in the 100's for weeks at a time and the lows in winter are the teens to rarely the zeros. Are heat pumps the way to go?

There are heat pumps and there are heat pumps.

I'm guessing you are thinking about a geothermal heat pump. Yes, they are a lot more expensive to install, but in the end it will be the cheapest way to heat and cool your space.

Gas fired forced air or boiler with A/C will be cheaper to install, but the electric costs will get you in summer !

My guess is that it will take 5-10 years to recover the additional installation cost.

You need to find a good local HVAC place who has done geothermal heat pumps. The calculation are way to complicated to figure out here.

If your going to put in a geo unit, look at Waterfurnace. Only brand to buy in my opinion.
