Ive got a Goodman 18 seer unit heat pump, it has the comfortnet thermostat, every now and then, it will say "Check Heat Pump" and of course it wont run, the aux heat kicks in, its happened about 3 times in the last week.

Then the "Check Heat Pump" goes away and it runs normal

Where do I start, I actually wish it would stay off, so I can get a repair guy out here.

This unit is only 2.5 yrs old.

Next time you see the same message, go outside and check the unit. If you see condensation coming off the unit like steam, it just went into defrost cycle and during this time, the aux heast kicks in. If not, there could be other issues.

It shouldn't say "check heat pump" if it's just in a defrost mode.

If you've had it 2.5 years and haven't seen this before, I would call someone to do a health check on it anyway. Whatever is causing the intermittant message is probably fairly obvious.

I agree with you about it shouldnt say "check heat pump" when defrosting, i have never seen any frost on the condenser,Yeah i need to call someone, but like I said its an intermitent problem

Is this the message you see on the screen?
Then it is not just a defrost mode cycle. Self diagnostics is built in to the Goodman unit and the thermostat. Really dcannot tell what sensor/s triggered the fault message, I apologize that you cannot diy this case. Only qualified service technician can diagnose.
