Heat pump troubleshooting?

So I have this LG minisplit heatpump system and it cools like a champ and saves me a ton of money.

Well, it finally got really cold here and I switched it over to heating mode and turned it up and I swear it isn't putting out much heat if any.

I know that heat pumps aren't very efficient in cold weather, but we are talking 40 degrees and it should still work a little bit at that temp.

The big house heat pump works just fine and since heat rises, it really isn't a big deal, however I want to make sure that I don't have a problem.

Any pointers or ideas on how to troubleshoot heating? Cooling works amazingly well, not sure whats up with the heat.

Will check it out.

However, I can flip it to cool mode and it blasts out extra cold air like a champ. Room is 72 degrees and the air coming out is like 50.

90% of the time you will have a leak and be low charged on refigerant. Only way to tell is get temperature and pressure readings of the lines and compare to data from your unit.If low, you'll likely have too much superheat on the suction. Not for a novice.

Well, apparently this is a known issue.

There is a thermistor that tells the heat when to kick on, so I guess it went bad.

Its only $4.67 for the part, but since its under warranty they are sending it out to me for free.

Regardless, I will be happy when its spitting flames.

This is a mini-split, so there is not really any way to measure the high pressure side on this one.

But thanks for the input!

Just an update on the mini-split.

They sent me a new thermister that measures the temperature on the evaporator coil.

So I swapped it out and the system now heats like a champ.

I really only need heat at night, since its still in the 70s here during the days so this mini-split is still saving me money every month.

I love this thing!
