looking at a modine heater for my garage to be built can anyone explain the difference between a direct vent and a power vent, maybe not the difference but is there an advantage to one over the other. I see a lot of used heaters around and the one I was looking at is a MODINE pd100aa0111 is there anything I should look for ?

A power vent heater uses a blower fan for exhaust gases and a direct vent has a natural draft exhaust.

I don't like power vents. Just one more thing to break down and require repair over time. Hopefully your particular installation will accommodate a natural draft vent.

"direct vent" typically means it has separate connections for combustion air and flue vent. "Powered vent" has a small fan to help get the flue gases out. They can be useful when the heater is located in a difficult spot to run 'normal' flue venting.
