I have built a small wood stove for my pole barn shop. Without being totally stupid, I want to cheat it as close to the wall as possible My shop is tiny and I need all the space I can get. I can put up whatever needed for heat shields. I'm looking for thoughts on materials and installs. I have seen lots of the standard- line the wall with drywall/metal/tile backer etc., sometimes with a standoff system.
As a car guy though, often heat shields are also placed closer to the heat source, like on a turbo. What about wrapping the back of the stove close by about 1" from the body? Same goes for the single wall pipe and elbows?
Have more air space between the heat shield and the wall, rather than more airspace between the stove and the heat shield...???
I also have access to lots of mineral wool insulation in thicknesses 1"-4". I could add that someplace as well...

Thanks!

Heavy steel plate (0.090-0.125) mounted on some kind of metal frame work to hold it vertical. Forget the insulation. Air flow across the back side of the plate is the best.

My Dad did this in his cabin, with mostly knotty pine paneling. He installed a 1/2 thick brick wall behind the stove, but the temperature on the stud side of that wall was more than 100F. The heat shield dropped the temp almost 20F.
