heater for winter time??

Hi i am wonder what is choice to do heater in my 30X30 garage as detached?

electrical heater as big one? or kersone oil burner??

i just want see what is choice to do if i need to work in my garage during cold weather as soon it will be cold weather coming....

Well my first question would be if the garage is insulated or not . Lets say it is then for electric the Dayton G73 is quite popular around here . On the other hand if its not then for now I would wall off a 15X 20 work area with some heavy plastic sheeting and use a smaller unit like my Dayton 3VU36 to just heat the smaller work area .

The Dayton will require a 208/240v,30a circuit, runs at 5000 watts (17k BTU) and is designed to heat 500 sq/ft.
You can find these for under $300. They are nice heaters, compact and safe but it may not be efficient enough to heat your 900 sq/ft garage especially if not insulated, how warm you want to keep it and how often/long your in the garage.
So you have to remember this heater can be costly to run.

If you decide to go with propane/NG, a non vented heater will introduce quite a bit of moisture to the garage. Going with a vented propane heater will require you to add a outside vent stack and have a gas line run so the installation is a bit more work. You should also check with your town on code requirements before going with a LP or natural gas heater.

Oh jeez... my garage are non-insulation... i dont know how long will i stay in garage to do repairs or do a side jobs during winter... but it would be more likely of i would do limit the side jobs depend on how much would it take...

also i do see vents out of under the roof but not has vents on side of top garage building...

If you have no insulation, you're going to need something that can over come that heat loss. Every dollar you waste trying to heat that space would be better off spent on insulation.

Knowing your in Indy I would get a roll of clear contractors plastic and put up a temporary ( paintbooth if you will ) with the plastic as walls and maybe even cieling . This would allow you to close off a small work area cheaply that you could wrench in durring the winter . My 3VU36 Dayton will keep my 450SF shop prety toasty ( I do have an insulated door and insulation in the cieling but there is none in the walls as the house was built in the mid 60's and I havent had it done yet ) walls are finished so will have it blown into them .
