hi all, I have have a 30x40 pole barn that I currently have a wood stove in. im thinking about getting a large propane heater and venting...looking for recommendations on type and amount of btus I might need. I have 16 ft side walls and open rafters...insulation wise I have 2 inch foam board on the walls..covered with plywood....r10 equivalent and the gables and roof have been spray foamed...2 inches on the roof....1 inch on the gables with 2 inches of foam board behind it. I'm in indiana...any recommendations would be of help..thanks!

IMHO, some of the relevant details have not been included in the question.

I suggest you consult a local heating professional because you have not mentioned the Degree Days, number and size of doors and windows, and other pertinent factors.

These things are easily determined by a site visit from an experienced estimator.

Once an estimate is in hand you can request proposals from vendors.

My internet guess....... 1200 sqft marginal insulated 80k ceiling mounted heater. If it’s leaky, as in not well sealed 100k.
When it come done to it there are NOT that many choices.....cuz 45/50k will be to small and 120/150k will likely be too big.

Would better if the ceiling was better insulated R38

I have a shop with 14 ft ceilings and 3 car size space.
I use a 40k but propane patio heater. The infrared heat is cozy.
Now before some go all crazy about the venting..
Its a garage with leaks all around the main door.
And there is a monoxide detector in there with the side door opening and closing dozens of time an hour.
ITs just like using a regular ng heater..
