Heater Vertical venting

Hello,
I just got and hung my 50,000btu big maxx heater. Im starting to put in the venting. I have the vent kit, I just have one question about penetrating through the attic. I have the wall thimble installed where it goes through the drywall ceiling, but is there anything that needs to be installed where it penetrates the roof? I know that there is the flashing on the outside, that goes under the shingles. I have a 3" B-vent, so if I cut a hole in the roof 6" that will give me my 1" clearance, but is there anything that has to go between the vent and the plywood sheathing? Thanks

Hopefully you've got it all lined up correctly using a plumb line, but since you've got hole cut it roof, that's where it WILL stay !!

Up top on roof, just need the flashing over hole, then slide the double-wall flue pip up through once connected to heater below. Last thing to go on up top is weather ring than slides down pipe to keep rain from getting through the gap between pipe and flashing. Lastly, the cap goes on top of pipe.

Only thing more I would do than in video is put some roofing sealant on the joint of weather ring and pipe. Also, lots of roofing sealant on the flashing where it goes on shingles, plus roofing sealant to keep shingles from flopping in the wind.

B Vent needs to be a minimum of 1" from any combustible material. i.e. joists, roofing, etc....

What do you have supporting the weight of all the vent pipe? I went horizontal with my vent so no support necessary. I think there is also suppose to be a fire stop at the ceiling and not a thimble. Thimbles are for going thru side walls.

Samert makes a good point. With a vertical install, you don't need a thimble through the drywall ceiling. I used a metal firestop/support plate that mounts to a wood support framework (2x4 in my case) that I attached to the joists of the roof trusses. It came with a metal band that clamps to the vent pipe and rests on top of the plate to support the weight of the pipe. A simple collar slipped onto the vent pipe on the inside of the garage ceiling acts as a beauty ring covers the hole in the drywall. I purchased the firestop-support at Home Depot...
