I have a 20 x 30 2 car garage that I am converting into a work shop. I plan on insulating the shop and putting in a mini split to keep some climate control. I plan on putting R19 in the walls, and some foam board insulation on the back of the fiberglass garage door. My questions are what to do with the celing/roof.
There is not a ceiling in place but I could add one. First question is it better to put in a ceiling and insulate that, or leave the ceiling out and insulate the roof? Next question is about roof ventilation. I checked the soffits and there are no vents right now. It would be easy to drill holes a long the soffit and put in small vents. I looked up at the inside of the ridge and I do not see any vents up there. I do see that the plywood roof sheets do not meet at center, there is an inch or so gap on each side of center, and you can see the roof shingles..Not sure if this actually vents anything. I can easily do soffit vents, but not sure what I should do about the top roof vent.
