Currently using oil heat forced air in the winter and window units in the summer .

After 4 years it's getting old filling the oil tank and taking window units out .

I have the option to run natural gas but I'm open to anything .

Square footage of the area is about 1200.

Looking for conversation options.

Is this for your house? Garage?

Really tough to beat natural gas these days. I'd start by getting quotes to replace that oil burner with a natural gas furnace.

A 2 zone 2 ton mini split would work wonders. You get ac and heat in one package. It can be installed by you, risking any warranty, or by a dealer. I went with a Daikin 4 ton 2 zone in my 40x50. No regrets except the dealer's installers left something to desire but that's another story.

You need to estimate the heat and AC loads and then use your local gas and electric costs to figure out if a mini split or gas + ac will work better for you. Look up "manual J" calculation.

Also gas furnaces can heat up a space faster than a mini split. You'd want to leave a mini on all the time unless you won't be needing heat/AC for days.

Nat gas is the way to go if you have it available. No sense in jacking up electric consumption to where it switches from 8cents/kWh to say 14.

Oil heat has become a red-flag for home insurance in recent years. Not only do they believe the fire risk is greater, but the whole chapter of fuel containment requirements to abide by.
