Heating disk distance question

Ok, I've learned a lot searching here. I was going to buy a heating disk like this http://www.mrheater.com/productdetails_extended.asp?catid=42&id=21

But am now unsure. I understand it heats what is in front of it only. A light bulb type affect. But how FAR does it heat. I will be in a 8X12 foot portion of the garage. Would it do the job. FYI it is a small one car, uninsulated garage. I don't own it so don't want to spend on insulation. I did line the open portion of the rafters with plastic. And used can foam to fill the numerous leaks, though many especially around the large door exist.

I live in a cold area. Temps could be below zero at times. I will only be in the garage an hour or two at a time and will only heat during that time. I'm now leaning towards force air. I'd be very happy, if on a cold day I could get the temp in the low 40s.

I have one and like it. But in all honesty it doesn't heat much besides what is exactly in front of it. I just bought the small reddy heater torpedo from Lowes for $99. It heats much better and is only $60 more and well worth it. I use both now at the same time and it keeps me very comfortable. If you want to spend a little more get the torpedo it is like night and day. I love mine. I have a three car garage and for a one car the disc heater may be enough but the torpedo will definately heat the space very well.
