What would you guys suggest for a heating and cooling set up for a 16x24 room above my garage. Its to far from my house furnace so a separate set up will be needed. Efficiency is important because we will live in the room while we remodel rest of house next year.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Beau

1. Heat pump mini split

2. direct vent gas heater

Gas in the garage?
Long term planned usage ?
Heat source for the garage area if any?

Easiest would be minisplit, likely just run a 240v 15A circuit (14GA wire) to the external site for the condensor, then a control wire and 2 refrigerant lines inside.

I like the mini split just don't know if I could justify the cost. I have a wood stove in basement of house that I may move out to garage down the road but not now as it's also used for heat in the home on the weekends. The garage is still in construction so it has no heat as of now. I may not heat it for a couple years and just heat the room above. Would make a big difference if the heat in the garage with rise heating the room almost without having to even have heat in the above room?

My father has the radiant tube heat in his shop and I really like it just curious if it would heat the garage and above room floor to heat room? I assume that's probably one of those you don't know until you try it but that would be awesome now has anybody tried that before .

Thanks guys and sorry for long message

If you have heat below and no insulation in the floor, and insulation in the upstairs ceiling, I think you will get pretty good results upstairs. Worth a try
