It is not insulated. Some parts of the garage is though. And yea if you got to deal with the noise to be warm then you live with it.

I've been looking prety hard lately for portable electric heaters to try and keep myself warm and am strikeing out. I've found some NG semi portable ones for a couple hundred bucks that are in the 20-30k btu range but if i little more than double the money then i can get a whole garage heater ceiling mounted but with running lines and wires its outta my range but honestly seems to a decent idea.

I'm probaly gonna spend for a smaller portable propane heater right now till i can afford to install a perminent one.

If you don't have insulation, I think you would be better off with an infrared type heater. You point it in the direction of where you are working, and it heats you up as well as the object around you.

Without insulation (some is considered none) you will lose heat quickly and it will take forever to warm up.

Invest in a 60,000ish BTU kerosene torpedo heater. I have a drafty shack of a garage. Mine keeps me toasty and it doesn't cost much to fuel. It heats the place up pretty fast and I have mine plugged into a thermostat. If you cant spring for new, buy used. They are easy to get rid of, too.

I have a stand up oil heater I bought from Home Depot. It has a clock and timer feature so I can set it to go off right after I leave for work and set it to go on an hour before I get home. I have a 2 car garage and it heats it up great! I wear shorts while it's snowing outside.

So... is the project a GSX???
I have one of those in my shop right now. .. my sons..

I have a mini-split w/heat pump, but if it is cold cold I have a wood stove that will drive you outside if you get carried away... im pretty well sealed up and insulated. ...

the catalyst propane type heat without the smell like a kerosene nipco has but a nipco puts out more heat... both noisy

Yea i have a Gsx and i am doing a rebuild on the engine right now.

I also have just 110 hook up out in the garage so i don't think i can get Infrared heater out there. I was just going to but a cheap and good propane heater but i cant find any i like. I want something that will warm the garage up quick and not burn me up lol. I am looking for a good propane heater that puts out good BTU's.

I would avoid any propane or kerosene heater that isn't vented outside. They create moisture as fast as they create heat, and that moisture will cause you future problems with mold and rust on metal surfaces.
If you burn fuel, you want the heater vented outside to get rid of the moisture. Electric heaters don't need to be vented, but with only 120v available, you can't generate much heat.

What many do is fire up a propane tank top heater. For a 2 car, get one with two burners, that should be good for 30K BTU's. Once the garage is up to temp, shut it off and use a 1500w oil filled radiator to maintain the temp. You may still need to supplement with the tank top heater since the space is not insulated, but see how it goes. Minimizing the run time of the tank top heater would be a good thing, for the reasons mentioned. But you most likely will need to burn some kind of fuel to get a reasonable amount of heat in that space. A 110v circuit by itself won't get you far. Total cost should be $150 plus the propane tank if you don't already have one.

Yea i want to do a propane because i dont own the house and if i was to put a wood burning heater i would have to take it out when i move. What would be my best decision here? Buy a propane heater or electric or what?

Moisture is only a problem in a tight, insulated space. All torpedo (salamander) heaters should have stickers on them that tell you to have x amount of square feet of ventilation to fresh air, that goes for kerosene and propane. I heat my entire house with an 80k BTU gas furnace, but that is fairly tight and insulated. My very well ventilated unattached shack of a garage is tiny by comparison, but gets heated with a 60k BTU heater. It heats up fast, but it also loses heat fast because there is so much "ventilation" and no insulation.

It looks like electric heat isn't an option for you because you just have 120 volt power. Sealed combustion heaters are also out because this is not your property. Tank top, or convection heaters may work if your structure is tight enough and insulated, but if it were me, I would open that garage door about 6" and fire up a used kerosene torpedo heater.

How big is the 2-bay garage and is adding some insulation to the attic an option? Maybe r20 or r30 and keep on using electric heaters? Pictures of car and garage??

I have a 9-sec white 70 GSX tribute (was a GS350) car, with a 506 BBB.
