I bought a Cape Cod Style house last May. It has a 30 by 25 foot garage with an 11 foot ceiling. It is currently uninsulated and unfinished. Will be insulating soon. I ran (3) 20 AMP Circuits and (3) 220v 30 AMP Outlets. Deciding on a welder and will run a circuit for that as well. Currently I am looking for a heating solution for between 1000 and 2000 dollars.

Current Options Propane or Oil Forced Hot Air Units.

I do have NG on the street but its not worth to get the house connected IE$5000 for a connect fee.

NG Modine "Hot Dawg" heater. I just put one of these in 30x30 shop, very happy with it. Get one a little bit bigger than you need.

Hard to believe they would want $5k to run gas line from street to your garage. I recently built addition onto large duplex house and I had to have gas meters moved from one side to the other. This involved a new gas line from the street to my house - total cost for gas company work was $1k.

Good luck with it. Nothing beats a nice, warm garage!

sounds to me like the house was never upgraded to natural gas?

heating oil with a boiler and radiators?

what do you have for cooking > electric stove?

get out of the 19th century and get some NG in that house !

you will recoup that expense in a few years then you can run gas line from house to the garage.

I've got a similar situation with gas on the street but not connected to the house, and I bet it is more common than you think. In my case, I am on a hill of decayed granite about 50 yards from the street, and about 50 vertical feet. My gas company had an independent contractor come out and quote it out at $8,000. Even though I would have probably accepted and paid that, the gas company came back and said it was "unfeasible," which probably means it's not worth it for one more customer.

I'm not help on your heater, but I can understand your NG dilemma.

that's a crock especially if you are paying their sub-contractor to install the service line.

A directional drill is no problem for that soil.

How much do you spend on heating oil per season?

I have a 2 year old weil mclain steam boiler. Using about 1 to 2 gallons a day. Using a Pellet stove for the main source of heat in the house. So far this season I have used 2.5 tons of hard wood pellets and 50 gal of oil. For Being in Massachusetts I am doing fairly well this winter. Looking at a cost of 1000 dollars in pellets and a half tank of oil a year at 2.05 per gal.

What size Modine Unit would I need is there a huge difference between Modine, Renzor, or a Sterling Unit.

Is Separated Combustion Needed? I run a sign shop so it's mainly a work space for installs and material storage. There is a 72 by 48 by 36 flamables cabinate in the garage. A town by law forced the cabinate.
