heating woes?

I have a nice 98% efficient gas furnace in my home, older place with forced hot air hate air rather have water for comfort but another story.

So system used to heat and cool house just fine and all rooms were close on temps, so three years ago we rented out space to a couple from south and gal was always cold....ran heat at 75 in house omg too hot I like 63. So I moved back in due to divorce. ARG yeah no need to tell me there.

So now one side of the house is hot and the other side is cool, like the hot air is not being blown out of that side of the plenum, plenty of air volume so the flapper doors are all open and no leaks. I have been considering moving my thermostat to the cold zone to get it to run a bit longer which is not the answer.

Ideas? Forced Hot air central system in basement which is heated and Gas.

If it worked fine back then, it should work the same now. You need to figure out what has changed in the system to cause the problem. Are there and dampers in the duct work that someone might have moved ?

Make sure you check the Cold Air returns too!
Warm air needs a direction to head towards to fill a room with heat!

As stated above check ductwork in basement for closed of dampers. Also check for plugged air filter. Renters seldom even know they are there , let alone having to keep it clean.

I did the upkeep on system while renters were here. System has washable filters and ionizer system. All valves are open and duct work is older so there is not returns in all rooms just a main stack to second floor and first floor. First floor has 3 inlets and second floor has one.

Yes most renters are boxes of rocks, gal stuck a screw driver in microwave to change out a light bulb and blew the capacitor, she was lucky she did not electrocute herself.

I found it, when the AC system was replaced 4 years ago they hodge podged the stack and it seems to have a crack where they jerry rigged it and now the rivets have broken and air is leaking out into the basement causing one side to get the direct flow and the other side is getting leftover as it's at an angle vs straight up.

Poorly designed setup, looks like I will have to get some blind rivets out and repair it this weekend.

Glad you found the problem. Sounds like a fairly easy fix.

I band aided it for now with some sheet metal and metal sealing tape for now. This weekend I will make a proper patch.
