So lets see it, who has the heaviest work table? There has been 4 instances this year where I wish I had an anchor point, exactly where my table sits. My table isnt heavy enough nor is the wall behind it strong enough to use as any kind of respectable anchor point.

If you have a studded wall behind the bench lag bolt a 2X4 or 2X6 horizontally across the wall to each stud. This becomes your "anchor point"

My bench has 2X4's glued and screwed together vertically, and is then topped with a standard Formica counter top (with the back splash, as I HATE chasing things the roll past the back edge).

The base to my bench is 2X4's half lapped together, and with plywood ends to reduce torquing the frame. The front is faced with half lapped face frame.

If I ever build another barn or pour another floor for a barn, I'm going to put a D ring recessed in the floor as an anchor point. They are really useful when straightening metal.

SteveinSocal wins. His "table" is an angle plate off a horizontal boring mill which weighs somewhere north of 7,000 lbs.

My table is about 3,500 lbs. The stand will probably weigh about 750 lbs when complete:

Beat me to it OccupantRJ. Steel is approximately 5 lbs per sq foot per 1/8" of thickness. (1/8" is 5 lb/sq ft, 1/4" is 10 lb/sq ft, etc.)

2" is 80 lb/sq ft. 9x80= 720lbs.

My dad has a welding table 4x8 top of 1-3/8" steel. Legs are 4 inch angle either 3/16 or 1/4 cant remember which. Haven't attempted to weigh it but with our old skid steer it would teeter on the front wheels when unloading from the trailer. Best part is he gave $150 for it there was a surplus dealer that he used to buy a bunch of tables and benches from, guy calls dad one day on his way back to his warehouse and said I've got a huge table that I'll give you for a song if you will just get it off my trailer. Long story short $150 later and he has a huge table. I'll try to snap some photos next time I'm over there.

Here is the table mentioned above, it is 36 X 36 X 132. It is cast iron with an average thickness of 1 1/2 on the top. I paid more to get it here than it cost all told about 800.00
