So my family bought a house with some cabinets and they need a most thorough cleaning. What product and or products do you guys recommend that is super easy to get IE local stores. They are nasty....couple old wood cabinets and some melamine cabinets. Strong degreaser is recommended. After cleaning I am painting them.

Simple Green works well as does some of the citrus based degreasers. Not sure what oven cleaner would do to the wood but you might try it in an inconspicious spot and see if it stains/damages the wood.

when your done degreasing use TSP and wash them down again it helps the paint stick and removes anything left over from simple green

I use "Super Clean Foaming Degreaser". Comes in a purple spray bottle. My local O'Reillys carries it. I have used it on several greased up tool boxes, small engines, 2-stroke residue on snowmobile belly pans etc and I am happy with it every time. I even use it in the kitchen when oil or grease gets burnt onto the gas stove top from drunken cooking.

I use the purple Members Mark "Commercial Degreaser" from Sam's Club for almost every kind of degreasing in the shop. Dilute to the desired strength. It works as good as simple green without the horrible smell.

Dollar General Stores have "L.A.'s Totally Awesome". Its cheap, and works real good on greasy stoves as well as car parts. I have had real good luck with it.
