Got this at an auction for $70. 5ft long 30in wide 3in thick. It will get one of my bigger vises mounted to it.

Nice score. That's borderline YS award . . . . so how about . . YOU ROCK !!

Show us before and after pics after you've cleaned it up. Once all spiffed up, it will be the centerpiece of your shop I'm sure.

What lucky vise gets the honors of being attached ??

Clipped: nice bench and that must have been a good auction. I have to ask if you can post any pictures of your vises. so can you and maybe put it up for a vote which vise makes the bench.

are you going to take the casters off because might not be wise to have on if you are using a vise?

congrats on your showing up at that auction.

The vise is a CM 4 1/2in that I got as a warrenty replacement in 73 or 74. the one I foolishly broke was one my dad bought in the 40s.

Yes the casters will come off.

The auction was good with a 3/4hp block grinder for $55.

Also have a 12ft by 30in by 2 1/2in bench see pic of tag.

Cleanup is a little ways out due to starting a new shop soon.

Nice workbench. What did the buds start at?

Got any more pictures of your avatar? I have seen that one or one similar on the web someplace. Maybe it was a front mount pump.

Here's some pics. I've had this Jeep over 20 years

Nice bench! I got a similarly-styled bench at the GM Doraville plan auction--it's a little lighter duty, but not by much. Butcher-block top, two drawers just like those, and stamped heavy-gauge angle frame and legs rather than pipe like yours.
Mine came with a like-new small Wilton vise on it--it's a smallish vise, so the work surface isn't terribly high, but any higher and it'd be a problem.
Just something to keep in mind when deciding where/if to locate your vise on that one.
Clamp the vise to the bench for a while and use it that way, to see if it puts the vise's work surface too high to be comfortable.

I built a fab table, and found the work surface of the table is ideal, but a big vise on top of it is almost useless. My vise tables are a good foot lower than my work benches.

Drives: Firetruck came to me pretty much as you see it. It had a blown clutch (replaced the clutch disk, FUN) Starting problem (new starter bushings $3.00). Overheating due to missing thermostat an spacer. The rest was mostly cleaup.

Fliver: Thanks for the YS.

RC: The bench is 3 inches thick, enough to handle projects requiring the use of a BFH.
