I am planning to install a Mini Split unit in our garage. With ~ 12 ft ceilings, should I install the indoor unit near the ceiling or lower (to make access for filter cleaning easier)?

I would install it up near the ceiling if it were mine, for two reasons, the first being getting the a/c across the garage, the blowers aren't all that strong on those mini splits. And the second reason is all the heat is near the ceiling so the intake can get all that heat off the ceiling and cool down the area quickly.

just a note, this is what i do for a living, and i would install it in this manor in my own garage

duane,in a very large room, that will get 2 min-splits,could you mount the inside unit away from the wall, out towards the middle of the room?
The wall areas are not the work space, the middle of the rooms are.

This one blows right on me when I'm in the shop area. It wasn't meant to cool the entire downstairs area but it does a pretty good job.

This one is upstairs and you can hang meat up there!
