Hello.

Anyone taken apart a Hein Werner long jack model M?

Trying to figure out how to remove main cylinder to replace seals?

Well the while thing but I've got everything else apart enough. I think.

We're talking about the main cylinder.

Here it is in a small vise. I have a bigger vise. Just tried lefty loosey on it with all my might with one hand on both ends of the breaker bar, and being an aircraft guy I'm worried about putting excess force in what might be the wrong direction. I already ordered new seals a while ago and put them into oil in a glass jar to keep them soft.

Just letting this distract me from other things right now.

I did find this thread by HiBall but , is it lefty loosey? I assume so from one of the pictures in his thread.

Those tank nuts are torqued to probably 300-400 lbs/ft. That breaker bar won't cut it. I used a cheater bar about 4 ft. long on mine and it was still tough. I'm pretty sure all those are threaded the same, left to unscrew. Right to tighten.

Thanks.

Maybe in that thread link above I will find if when putting it back together is the tank threads sealed with something before reassembling. I didn't see in the seal/gasket picture blowup, a seal for the threaded end of the oil tank. Silicone/gas tank sealant?

No sealant used originally. Sealing was done with finely machined surfaces. Silicone could come loose and cause problems with hydraulics.

Wow finally got the big tank not off. Almost turned the big table over the vise was on with a big pipe. Much bigger vise and pipe than in the picture. My regular shop air impact wrench for tires didn't work either. Then I took it to a big truck tire shop and used their huge impact on it and that knocked it off with two shots of air.
