Hey All,

Im working on fixing up this Hein Werner Model GG for a friend. The original issue was when he would pump the jack up the jack it would immediately fall down. I went thought the unit and replaced the leather cup, seals and resealed the cylinder resiovor with gasket maker as per the instructions. The issue im having now is it seems the jack won't stay up all the way. I can jack it up to 90 degrees, then it falls back down to 70 degrees and holds. Ive been able to lift my Toyota Tundra. Ive listed below the ideas I've tried to remediate the issue.

1. Add/remove fluid
2. Purged air via the instructions given by Hein Werner
3. Tightened the packing nuts more

Highly unlikely the jack is designed to lift to 90 degrees, I’m trying to wrap my head around the difference between 70 and 90 degrees, It’s not working so I’m gonna quit.

When you are attempting to jack it up to 90 degrees is this under load or light? If light, measure the lift height where it rests and put it under load and try it again. It’s possible Without load you are moving enough oil to overcome the over extension hole in the cylinder (assuming it has one) and it’s taking time to lower. If you put it under load, when the lift arm gets to that point it’s going to be working only on the power side, thus moving less oil and pressure will clear that hole much faster. If the two measurements match, I’d say you are expecting too much lift out of the jack.

Im starting to believe its meant to settle at 70 degree and not lock out at 90 degrees. Its strong and holds weight at the 70 degrees. I appreciate the response @Hiball. I ended up painting the unit as well, needed something to jazz it up

Here it is, just gave it a quick clean and a rattle can paint job. Thought it made it look a bit better then flakey orange spots.
