Hello - I’ve looked through other posts on HW OS/WS rebuilds and couldn’t find an answer. Maybe someone can help me understand what’s happening with my O-boy.

The jack lifts and holds with no issues. However, when I open the release valve (clockwise) and and the jack lowers completely I have trouble getting the release valve to close/engage again (counter-clockwise). It will spin multiple times before engaging the stop. This only happens if I let let the jack lower completely. If I stop short and keep the jack elevated slightly, the release valve engages and operates as designed.

Any ideas?0E7D5633-AB04-44D6-94F9-3114E201AEAF.jpeg

Hello there @floyd! I'm no expert on these jacks (or any tool related topic to be honest lol) but I thought I would brainstorm here with you while someone with actual knowledge comes to help, hope you don't mind.

I assume you restored the jack yourself so you are familiar with the release valve mechanism. If the jack holds weight it means that the valve is working properly when closed and as well as when being open since the jack goes down. Assuming that is the case then the internal parts should also be fine. The issue then must be with the outside mechanism and from looking at the pictures the gears do not look worn or damaged (at least the part that is visible). Is there a way you could post a video of the issue focusing on the gears mechanism? Also, what do you mean by "stop" when you mention "It will spin multiple times before engaging the stop".

Just to make sure (again, thinking out loud), the jack would start to lower (specially under load) once the release valve is a little bit open (half a turn or so) letting pressurized fluid pass but it will take the valve to be completely closed (multiple turns to thread the valve needle all the way in) to stop any fluid to pass by and allow the pressure to build and lift the piston.
