Hey.. I know this picture. We spoke about the kit for you jack, Did you try using a Pipe wrench? I can see a chain wrench in the background, It should come off with a pipe wrench. You could make a special tool like the above one referenced but, ive seen those **** break. Also you can remove that inner compression nut, It will reduce the Torque needed to break it loose. Lemme know if you still need assistance. Ill be away from the computer for a bit, If you have any questions feel free to ask here or if its pressing you can give me a shout at the number i emailed you. Im somewhat the resident Hydraulic jack guru here along with quite a few guys who can chime in on those HW rebuilds including Elroy, evintho. I promise though a good pipe wrench, stay off the resevoir and big enough cheater it will come off.

Will this pin spanner work for the Hein-Werner tank nut shown in the initial post? Will a hook spanner be better?

It is 1 1/4 to 3", I believe the diameter of the nut is 3", please advise. Thank you.

I think the pipe wrench is the way to go on these. I've had success using them on hydraulic cylinder glands on heavy equipment.

a pin spanner will not take a lot of stress

Hi KBS,

I meant a hook spanner (see pic below).
I think you are right, the pin seems kind of week for the amount of force required.

Hi Rusty,

I’ve used the pipe wrench before but I’m trying to avoid damage to the nut. Usually the pipe wrench leaves some “scarring” behind and I’m trying to find a better way to do it.
