Picked this up a couple of weeks ago - $5 porch sale. Rough/well-used condition but for five bucks...you get what you get. I cleaned it up outside a little to remove the major grime. Brought it inside to the workbench and removed the power unit. Should have power washed it from the get-go. Disassembled the pump, check valve and the release valve. The fluid was nasty. I was unable to budge the tank nut but not that concerned as I still didn't have a rebuild kit. After flushing the system I reassembled everything; filled it with new hydraulic fluid and bled the system. Worked good.
So I power washed it, painted it and lubed it. Not too shabby I thought. When I lifted the front end of my wife's Buick Enclave it worked fine. A bit different from my twenty year old Craftsman; this jack does almost all of the work at the very end of the handle's travel. Also, the handle just leans forward when not in use. AFAIK, it's not missing any parts, but maybe I'm wrong? Anyway, it leaks now - from the check valve. So I have the rebuild kit on the way. Can anyone please tell me if (1) there is a spring missing that would normally return the handle to the up position; and (2) if it's normal for all the pumping to take place at the very end of the handle's stroke?
