Hein-Werner WS stalls on the way down

Jack Experts,

I've been using my grandfathers HW WS jack all my life. As of late sometimes when I lower the jack it will fall until it has no weight on it, and the only way I can get it all the way down is to put a little weight (like resting my foot) on it, then it goes completely down.

It doesn't always stall like this though. Is this a sign I should be ordering a rebuild kit or something else?

Are both retracting springs connected?

What about lubing the pivot point. There's a grease zirk there.

I got around to getting it up on the bench today and looking it over. Both springs were attached and in working order, plenty of grease on the pivots so I decided to change the oil. After doing so it seemed to be back to normal for the 5-10 test lifts I did. I'll know for sure when I return to using it under a load.
