Hi all,

I just picked up a large old drill press, its not home yet, and for the life of me, I cant recall the manufacturer, but its a 1960s piece, and converted to a 2hp DC variable speed motor. Anyway, its my first real drill press, and I need a DP vise for it. Ive looked all around the site, for a long time now, and cant seem to find what Im looking for.

Im looking at the Heinrich site, and not sure what the differnce is between the models of Gripmaster, what does the SV, PA, GM, TS all mean? Im thinking a 4 incher would be ideal, but dont know what all the letters mean?

thanks for the help!

GM is their general use vise. flat bottom flat right side and side bolt down flanges. Good compromise for general work.

SV has flat bottom, side bolt down flanges, but cannot be used on it's side like the GM can.

TS are completely flat sided, no bolt down flanges on the sides, instead they are located front and rear.

VB is a V block attachment for holding round work.

SV and PA are the clamping mechanisms.

Depending on what you are going to be drilling and the type of table on your drill press, I'd probably go with one of their float lock vises over their standard quick action vises. And then grab a basic flat sided palmgreen or the like.

ahhhhh! That answers my next question "what is a three sided vise" but I see now

The press has a t slot table, about 18 by 18. The machine will handle up to 1 inch in steel without a problem, and i doubt I would ever be doing anything bigger, if I was, I have friends with Bridgeports lol.

I assume by float lock, you are talking about the "safety drill vise"? Ive seen refrence to them, but Im affraid I dont understand how they work. Got a picture of one in use?

Thanks for the help!
