I Just finished the Hellfire install on my 1200 ft^2 pole barn....

Looks good from that angle. Do you have any other photos/close-ups of your install? Never thought about Hellfire with chips

If you're looking for a talking point to support no flakes - flakes will hide that one drop of oil that you didn't clean up, making you more likely to track it into the house

Doesn't look bad at all.
If you guys do this, I would suggest adding a 2nd clearcoat.
Use 400-425 sqft per gal for this.

That is what the chips look like on my floor under 2 coats of poly.

drmarkr: The chips are under the epoxy dispersed on top of the last layer of wet hellfire.

At first this thread had me super disappointed... and then it turned around! I was hoping for a Labor Day 2020 coupon code from Legacy (cough, Scotty, cough) but to no avail. I've got a 30x60 that is almost completely skinned and the electricians started today. I LOVE the way those flakes look bashr52! I have run all the way through my original plan of Rust Bullet, to Rock Solid, to 3 layer polyurea, and then I ran into the reviews on HF. I think for me the HF is the best choice, but now I'm wondering if 3 coats of HF, a light flake application, one coat of straight clear, and a final clear coat with antiskid wouldn't be the cat's Pjs!

I just wanted to follow up after a few months of ah omg the clear coat down. So far it is performing just as I had hoped. I’ve done some metal fab (grinding, welding etc.) and it is holding up great. Also I think it just looks a lot better with the clear than without. So far very little as far as scratches or dings. This stuff is pretty tough.

I'm pretty bummed....I watched the humidity through the entire monsoon season here in Tucson, and we never got to 60%. Without enough humidity to cure Hellfire, I simply can't put it down.

So, all, what's next in line for the 1500 sqft of relatively virgin floor.....???

Thats a tough area. However, a customer i talked to last week told me the humidity rises big time in the evening. Might be worth investigating.

Sorry to hear the problems you had with Hellfire. I just did 2300 sf using Polyurea from Legacy. The product was awesome and seems to have a rock hard finish. I can post some pictures if anybody is interested. Scotty has been great and answered all my calls and emails. I'm certain he will fix this for you.

Do you have antiskid in the clear? If not do you feel the floor is slippery ?

Hey bashr52,

Your floor looks amazing! I live up in Canada and will have some times where snow can get on the floor when pulling in vehicles.. Is your floor slippery when wet? Or do the chips offer some grip. Would you recommend some antiskid in the final clear?

I Just finished the Hellfire install on my 1200 ft^2 pole barn. I had to do it in two sections as I had some large equipment and a car I couldn't store outside during the install. I shoved everything to one side, swept, vacuumed out the corners/edges, wet and swept, then acid etched/neutralized, and let it dry out completely. I used fans during some 80+ degree weather. I did the first coat of hellfire, wait 2 hours, second coat, 2 hours, and then last coat and chipped. I did not have the poly at that time for the first half, so I ended up having to wait about a week for the poly to arrive and I swept off the lose chips and vacuumed the edges again before I applied. Same procedure for the poly. Apply, wait a few hours, and reapply.

The other side went quicker since the weather was much warmer this go-around, and I had all the material on hand. I did the same procedure, except it was only a few hours between the last coat of hellfire and the poly.

My floors were finished super smooth when the guys did the job, so all it took was the acid etch to prep, and I was able to get 600 feet out of one gallon of both hellfire and the poly. The whole garage took 6 gallons of Hellfire, 4 gallons of poly.

The chips were left as-is before the poly, I did not scrape. I wanted it this way as the chips add a little bit of grip to the surface. Tracking sand/dirt in is not an issue anymore either from cars, boat trailer, or by foot. Once it dries out, just sweep it and it's clean.

The only issue I had was seeing where I had already rolled the poly, since it is crystal clear and the floor was reflective with the lights on. I have one area on the second side I did where I missed a small area on the first coat of poly (didn't full overlap the roller passes), so it is slightly rougher to the touch and looks a little duller if the light hits it just right, but I put on a heavier coat of poly in that one area when I did the second coat. It doesn't really bother me, but if I need to at some point, I may just order a quart of poly and roll that one section.

How much chips did you use? lbs/1000sqft?
