So, shortly after I posted my "hello world" message this morning, the system blew up and it vanished. I get a do-over.

Now, if I had a choice of things to do over, I'd probably choose high school. I'd be much less nerdy and much cooler and more popular this time, I swear.

Anyway, when I was younger (H.S. and college) I did a lot of carpentry (I was a carpenter for a theater company, so I'm skilled at making things that look good on one side, from a distance) , a moderate amount of auto work (mostly necessity but sometimes just because I wanted to), and a little metal work and machining (which was fun, but I didn't know what I was doing).

Since then, life has changed some. My wife, daughter, and I moved around a lot, but have settled here in central Iowa and we have no plans to move again. We got a good house, a little land (1/2 acre - all we really want) and a good solid outbuilding that we all use. My wife does pottery and ceramics (including the electrical and plumbing needed for a glazing booth and kilns), and my daughter (8) does all kinds of crafty stuff - these days mostly painting, sketching, and making slime. I have an old fashioned woodworking setup, build some furniture and various things around the house/yard, do general tinkering, etc. It's a good life.

Work remains at full blast and I don't really have enough time for optional big projects (I have a long list), but there are enough required projects to keep me busy.

I've lurked here for a while, but it's time to join up. With the overall level of expertise here, and the speed at which people respond to questions, I'm not sure what I have to contribute - we'll see.

Welcome from Sunny Southern California, where we have two seasons; they are Earthquake Season and Fire Season. They are each 52 weeks long, both in odd and even years.

Thanks for the welcome. Here in Iowa, I'm told that the seasons are "almost winter", "winter", "still winter" and "sunburn".
