Hello all. I've finally decided to leave the shadows, and stop being a lurker. I've frequented Garage Journal for at least a year now, probably much longer. I currently reside in my hometown of Hinton, Alberta, Canada. At least for time being.

For a little about myself, I've decided to become an active member and register, as I currently find myself in position ready to purchase an entire new tool set. I have found the discussions on this forum to be very informative with respect to people's individual experiences and opinions. Also in the near future I plan on selling my current property to hopefully purchase something with a garage, or at least the room to build one.

As for my background, I am currently a 4th year Millwright apprentice, with about 6 years experience working in Natural Gas Compression. Additionally I am a Red Seal Journeyman Instrumentation Technician since 2011, and have worked all over Alberta, Saskatchewan, and B.C in the Oil and Gas Industry, as well as a year working on large scale oil pipeline projects in the eastern United States.

I hope to be as active as possible, to learn a lot, and hopefully help or teach others from my own experiences. Looking forward to meeting some great people I already know are here from my time in the shadows.

Hi guys, thanks for the welcome. I realize I could look elsewhere to find likely this exact post, or read profiles, but could I bother you who have been kind enough to reply for a quick bit of info on yourselves? Things like work background, mechanical or technical interests, passions and hobbies?

I personally am and always have been into tech and computers, why I pursued instrumentation, and am always fascinated by the amazing ways people can design systems, machinery and equipment to accomplish impressive feats, hence the Millwrighting.

On another note I would very much like to hear from anyone with pointers, tips, stories, regarding setting up a small scale metal working shop, I'd very much to like have a small but capable hobbyist/enthusiast fab shop with at a bare minimum a mini lathe, mill, and good layout table.
