Hello all from the Houston area

Hello!

I have been a member since 2010, but this is the first time I have posted.

We have have recently moved to a home with the standard 90's era 19'deep x 24'wide hip roofed detached garage, and have quickly found the need to expand.
The plan is to add a 20'x20' addition off the back with a gable roof line. In addition we are going to add a 20'x10' open gable patio on the other side of the existing garage to add an outdoor living/relaxing area.
I have done some preliminary sketches, but they are rather rudimentary ( I will add them here this weekend).
What are some user friendly programs to use for someone needing to try a few design options? All the design folks around here are rather pricey for these basic designs.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

Nelson: if i was going to build a garage i'd check out the garage gallery threads and find some that i'd like to build. then i'd ask the member if he is able to email me a pdf. or scan of his design either to have a designer in your area copy so you could get permitted. or some guys might have plans with engineering that they can ship you with a fee.

best of luck and since you've been a member twice as long as i have i'll have to say how about making a few more posts even if it's only WELL DONE or THANKS when you read a thread and get something decent out of it?

As for the time that has lapsed between my initial date of joining, and this first post; I have only been on the site 2-3 times. I am one for quality over quantity, but will be glad to interject when I have something helpful to contribute while searching this site for information pertaining to this extension/renovation. With that said, I will be making a post with pictures eliciting suggestions, and I am sure learning a lot while contributing what knowledge I can.

WELCOME, just got back from a weekend in the Houston area while at the NHRA spring nationals @ Baytown. Lock up your checkbook...trust me on this!

Thanks! We were out there on Saturday for a bit. A friend of ours runs J&A racing and had us over to hang out. Very cool operation, 4 cars & 2 bikes in 4-5 fully outfitted rigs. Talk about $$$$

Nelson: if that picture is of you i'm sure there are younger members, but not sure about that. if it's your son or as we call them our Supervisors he looks pretty happy.
