Stumbled upon a Wilton vise in a trade shop in NW Fla. We made a deal and I left very happy.:)

Got it taken apart to grease and clean, and found the handle was welded to the screw!

Anyway, I'm old enough to have all 50 of the basic hand tools but don't have the room... Yet...

Stay tuned as it develops with my phone camera techniques.

surftele: post the Wilton with lots of pictures and questions on the vise repair thread i started and maybe we can help or point you in the right direction.

best thing about finding a broken Wilton is that you have parts for the nice one you'll find next that might need one because they are all built fairly similar.

welcome

I feel a lot more like I do now, than when I got here.

This is the vice I found garage selling back in November. The numbers are 101167 UX on the body and 10 1166.

32 mm freeze plug from NAPA, solid brass, from them good ol' Georgia boys.

I feel a lot more like I do now, than when I got here.

Hello and welcome from Ohio! Surf.... Could I ask what you paid for the Wilton? There is one similar in the local Craigslist. Thanks.

Surftele: that Wilton looked in awesome condition until i saw the handle. hard to say what happened there. Wilton is still in business so you could order a brand new handle or a member here might be able to make you one for a little less. also we have a vise parts thread and just post up you vise asking for one.

i think the C series Wiltons are their best vises and they are a top quality vise company. of course they have their cheap vise line that compares with other cheap vises. is your vise a C0 or what is the jaw width (closed)?

RB: PM me with a picture or the Craigslist link and i'll give you some pricing help if you need any on Wiltons or other old vises you might want to buy.

The guy was asking 50 but I only had 40 on me so I lamented it was froze up and rusty and would he take 40 for it? He just laughed it off and said sure whatever.

It was sluggish to open and the handle was rusted to the lead screw.

I just used lots of PB and oil and worked carefully with a big hammer and wedges.

I feel a lot more like I do now, than when I got here.

Surf: the swivel base or jaws are worth that much and you have a working vise. if you need a little help just ask or check out vise repair 101 thread in my signature.

speaking of signature yours looks like part of your post so if you want to keep it maybe coloring it blue or red and using the bold feature like i do on your name might keep members from thinking it's part of your post.
