Been lurking here a while and finally decided to join up. There's lots of great info here.
I'm rather recently retired after working several vocations. I spent about 5 years framing houses, about 15 years as owner/operator of a service station (remember when someone would run out, pump your gas, clean your windows, and check your oil and tires?) with a 4 bay garage for service and repair.
I got tired of smelling like gasoline, solvent, and grease so I studied computers and got an IT job. A clean indoor job with AC and without the feast or famine income of self-employment.
After 25 years of being network administrator at a hospital I decided I was tired of going to work every day and retired.
I still work every day (almost) but I get to do what I want when I want, except when something breaks and requires prompt attention.
Between the Wife, house, Dodge pickup, 4Runner, 2 Jags, '68 Harley XLCH, and garden tractor it seems like something always needs attention.
Perhaps someday I'll be able to start the "endless vacation" of retirement. Until then I'll stay busy and try to avoid the rot and decay of old age.
