I periodically check here for any info on my Athol 714 vise, particularly data on the spring wire needed to restore the dog clutch mechanism to full working order. This morning I saw someone had posted regarding a 713 in worse shape than mine, so I figured I'd sign up and contribute a little to a great site.

Tom: good to have another vise guy on our forum and hope you stick around to teach us what you know and maybe you'll learn something from us too.

speaking of Athol vises i just posted this homemade tool to take out the pin that is holding the spring in. if you have something similar it might make it easier to work on your Athol. also if you want to put your tips and tricks to vise repair on the vise repair 101 thread i started please do.

cheers and welcome
