Thanks for letting me join. Perhaps some garage door opener guru can solve my problem.
My Liftmaster 3255 gave up the ghost after ~17 years. I replaced it with a Chamberlain C203 (Chamberlain's basic Smart Myq model from Lowes). The replacement was easy enough, but when I was done, a garage feature which previously worked had stopped.
All of this takes place in a 1964 house. The original Overhead Door garage door opener (with a belt drive and vacuum tube radio remote) died some years after we moved in. It was replaced with the Liftmaster 3255 mentioned above. There is an external cylindrical key switch located outside the garage (SPST momentary). The two wires from this key switch were wired across the wall-mounted opener button inside the garage, mounted next to the garage-to-home door - wired across the white/red + white wires. This key switch would operate all of the openers up to and including the Liftmaster. This outside key switch was very handy. Sadly, with the new Chamberlain C203, the key switch no longer works. Is there some easy way to resurrect this switch?
When installing the new wall switch for the Chamberlain, I noticed that shorting the white/red + white wires did not activate the unit. The PCB inside the wall switch must be a bit more sophisticated. On both the Liftmaster (purple learn button) and the Chamberlain (yellow learn button), there are 4 wiring connections on the back of the motor unit: Red, White, White, Gray. The Red and 1st White terminals should be door control; the 2nd White and Gray connections are for the safety sensor system.
The white/red + white wires from the wall switch connect just as before - across the Red and 1st White connector. Although the wiring appears to be identical, the Chamberlain opener won't operate unless it's getting a 'signal' from the unique Chamberlain wall switch or else from a programmed remote.
So, how can I re-integrate my SPST momentary key switch? Thanks for your help on this.
