Hi everyone, my name is Gary and I'm very happy I found garage journal. Way cool forum that I hope I can contribute something to. I've been lurking around for a few weeks checking out different threads and decided to take the time to introduce myself.
I'm planning on building a 30 x 40 garage with 15' ceilings to house my 56 Nomad and 70 SS El Camino that I have stored in my brothers barn for a long time.
I'm totally open for any suggestions or helpful hints along the way. I'm planning on doing as much as possible on my own with the help of a few friends
I hear it's gonna to snow here tonite, is that true?

Welcome, Gary. You'll get tons of great ideas from this site. Post pics as you go, and please show us the Nomad and the Elky when you get a chance.

Ultra: might i suggest going to the garage gallery part of our forum and start reading about as many garages as you can in the size you are trying to build. you might also start a list of good points and pros and cons because you'll have more information than you can remember.

I've heard some car lifts need 12.2 inch tall ceilings and most of the guys saying so built 12 foot tall ceilings and had to either deal with the lack of full height or cut their roof supports after installing. just one thing i see fairly common in some of those threads.

also post up a few pictures of those Chevys since i always like the looks of those two cars when you can. i use the paperclip method just above where you are writing your posts to attach pictures to a post sort of like an email works.

welcome

Thanks everyone for the great welcome. My brother has a 2 post lift ,that we installed, centered between 2 rafters. Then framed a rectangle box between the rafters to accept the post to extend into them when lifting a car. works pretty well with 12' ceilings.

As for the Nomad and El, they're both projects. I need to build the garage first which seems a little overwhelming at the moment. Thanks again guys, and for you gals out there that are mothers
