Thanks for letting me join. Lots of information here.
I'm an old retired guy with fair mechanical aptitude, lots of interest, and very little experience. Recipe for disaster, eh? :)

I joined to ask a question about blow torches.
If this is the wrong place, say so and I'll repost.

Was drawn here by a 2 year old topic by Kirbot about them.
Its here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96601&page=2

The question is, what is the material inside the check valve plunger in an old Turner 150 blow torch pump assembly? I have seen references to leather and rubber, but the material doesn't look like either, and I am reluctant to mess with it until I find out.

I used the torch last week, the check valve does leak and the pump rod rises on its own, but no harm was done. Kept the neighbors interested.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Really looking forward to reading the threads here.

Thanks for the welcome.
Guess I'll wait before reposting, some forums get cranky when you double post.
