Just joined recently and thought I'd say hello.
I'm a mechanical engineer from Canada, currently living in Ann Arbor. I've been in the US for about 10 years now.
I've always done a lot of my own wrench twisting, putting a 1970 Triumph 500 together at 17, after bringing home the parts it was sold in, in 2 hatchbacks.
I roadraced motorcycles for 11 years and did the vast majority of work myself, especially when I was vintage racing.
I don't do as much these days, since I'm out of racing and no longer have to buy vans for $200 from the towing yard auction. Right now I don't have a garage, but I'm looking at improving my tool collection & boxes when the right situation presents itself...
