Wow, I finally figured out how to register here after months of having java issues using firefox, just open internet explorer dummy:lol_hitti

Anyway, hello from central Arizona. I've been reading through the forum for months and recently started on a small workshop/garage 20x20 after getting inspiration from all your posts and pictures. I already have a 25x27 garage but as many of you know, it's just a pain to park where you work. I don't do much in the way of car restoration anymore as the hobby got way too expensive and things took too long to get done. I now moved onto smaller and better things, Honda trail bikes, Ct70s and Z50s.

I am a jack of all trades but a master of none as the saying goes so my shop build is going to be all me with a helping hand or two when needed. Thankfully I don't need to have any inspections as the building is only 400 square. I just needed a land use permit so off I went. Hoping there are some seasoned carpenters on here ready to help with the occasional dumb question.

Todd.

funflyer: I like your first post and you should fit in the group just fine. there isn't such a thing as a dumb question if you really need an answer and have tried to find it before you asked.

no permit with a 400 square foot building. dang son here in the city we'd have to do a permit, plans, drainage plan and on and on for that.

may i suggest you keep this well written post and introduction here and start another thread in the garage gallery where more of the guys knowing the answers to your questions watch those threads?

if you need help just ask and welcome to the forum. also post lots of pictures of your bike riding and old cars and you'll find several guys with the same stuff.

Thanks drivesitfar,

Forums are the best part of the net and I hope I can contribute here and also learn as much as I have in other forums.

Welcome funflyer. Central AZ covers a lot, just curious where your located if you don't need building permits or inspections? I live in the county north of PHX, they're on our butts for. Anything larger than 10x12 Good luck with your build!

I'm in Yavapai county like you. The building department only requires a land use permit for structures up to 400sq as long as it isn't attached to another structure and has no electrical/plumbing. This requirement is supposed to be changed soon to 200sq so I got in just under the wire. They told me that if I add electrical later, I would need to do a plan and have the required inspections at that time. Although, they don't care now, I will build to code and have plenty of pictures just in case they get stupid down the road.

Welcome funflyer from west Phoenix. We are having a Hit & Miss Engine workshop/shop tour tomorrow if you are available.

Thanks JP, Sounds interesting but I have family coming up this weekend from Phoenix. I'll take a raincheck though.

My cabins up in Yavapai, you're right to document your build because they do get Stupid! That's where I found out Burn Barrels are illegal in AZ.:dunno:

I found Yavapai county very easy to deal with especially after dealing with Riverside California for 20 years. My brother in Phoenix tells me horror stories about Phoenix/Maricopa county inspectors.
