We're building a new home on a 5 acre lot in N. Scottsdale. Attached to the home will be a 4 car garage for the daily drivers. There will also be a 96'x36' detached garage/shop for my old Pontiacs. The plans/engineering are approved by the city, but we still have a lot of decisions to make for both garages (flooring, lighting, electric, HVAC, compressor, lifts, cabinets, etc). Hoping to leverage the collective wisdom here so that we can minimize mistakes!

Welcome to the Garage Journal - Are you originally from Arizona or a transplant like so many of us? What brand lifts do you have in mind? We built on a 2.35 acre lot outside Prescott and I'm still deciding on a 2-post lift for it.

Welcome! 5 acres in N Scottsdale - Nice!
Spent 8 years in N Scottsdale/Carefree and loved it and will be back to the valley soon!

There is a wealth of information and opinions here! You will also find you will be spending more $$$ the more you read! lol

Good luck with the build!

Hi Mike. I'm a transplant. Originally from CT, but moved from FL in 2011. In terms of lift brands, I have absolutely no idea. Though I'd like to get up to speed so that I'm ready to talk to vendors at Barrett-Jackson.

I've only been up to Prescott a couple times, but I really like it. My son has a soccer tournament up there in April…actually in Prescott Valley…looking forward to it!

We're on the east side of Pima off a gravel road at the end of Jomax where it butts up to Pinnacle Peak. I really didn't want to build, or deal with a property that big (we have to move about 2 dozen huge Saguaro, never mind the slope/wash), or be that far away from work (my wife and I are both faculty at ASU), but it's beautiful up there, and we just couldn't find an existing home with a large garage, casita, play field, close to hiking/mountain biking trails, etc.

Will you be moving back to this area, or someplace else in the valley?
