Hello from Brenham TX. Beautiful part of Texas, rolling hills, wildflowers (bluebonnets!), and the home of Blue Bell Ice Cream.

Just joined, as I'm getting ready to build a new barn/garage. We bought a new place in the country a couple weeks ago, and amazingly it does not have any barns on it (owner wasn't really an "outdoorsy guy"). At our old place, I had an open-sided 25x40 barn, with a 12x25 tuff-shed (think workshop) stuck up against one side. And my wife had a really nice horse barn.

I'll let her work on the horse barn, but for now I need to get to work designing my barn. I'll post in the main forum some thoughts & questions. Look forward to the feedback.

I've probably already read 30-40 different threads here, and the info is great!

PS: If you draw a line from Houston to Austin, Brenham is about halfway, slightly closer to the Houston side.

Hey Stuart. Welcome from Austin, although I'm in College Station as I write this today, so I'm even closer to you right now.

Thanks! You're even closer than you think, as we're on the east side of Brenham, near Independence. Off 105 from Navasota.

Thanks everyone, glad to be here!

Welcome from CENTEX, I live in Kempner, work in Killeen, Hutto and Austin.
Hutto! I am very familiar with Hutto. Good friends with the former mayor (Mike F), plus never miss the Hutto Olde Tyme Fair every October.

Stuart: i agree you'll find more information on the garage gallery threads here on Garage Journal than most any other sites on the internet. sounds like you are well on your way to learning how this forum works and maybe you can post a few pictures of your new place and maybe the site where your new garage/barn/shop is going to be located?

are permits hard to come by in your area and have you mapped out all the existing septic and driainfields or sewer if you have any, plumping and electrical pipes and wires and topography?

welcome to our group and ask questions here if you have any about how the forum works or ask on the threads if you need anything clarified. also share your wisdom which sounds like you have some where and when you can.

cheers from the PNW and i usually hang in the old tools sections, but hoping to buy some property either with a huge shop or build one some day soon.

Thanks, glad to be here. I am working on my post for the main forum, where I can ask about my new barn-to-be. I'm glad you posted this, I'll make sure and answer some of these questions in that thread.

Just came back from my first visit to Portland this past fall. Drove up the Dalles to Mulnohah Falls (sp?). Incredibly gorgeous area.

Stuart: i live in South Seattle, but i do like to get down to Portland and see some of that area as much as possible especially the Oregon Coast. if you plan to make another trip up here i'm pretty sure you'll like Lincoln City, OR or some other town on the Oregon Coast.

if you happen to get up to Washington then check out Snoqualmie falls just about 30 minutes east of Seattle. it's easy to walk to get these pictures and in summer not much water, but in the winter water bounces off the ground 300 feet below and it was getting my camera wet because it wasn't raining this day i took these pictures.

might i suggest you put your threads you start in your signature like i have with a few of mine? good luck on your build and hope i helped a little. you are very welcome and ask more questions if you have any because there are a lot of guys with a ton of wisdom to share if they know what you might need.

cheers

Portland was last year, but about 10 years ago I made it to Seattle. Another great city. And Snoqualmie Falls! Here's a pic from that trip...

Stuart: nice to see you've already been to Snoqualmie. my wife and i found several falls over on the peninsula just off Highway 101 if you like that sort of think. some you can walk a few hundred feet from where you park your car to the base of them that are maybe 150 feet tall and others you have to drive a long ways off the highway up into the mountains to see them.

have a great day and it's 60 and sunny here today which is about 20 degrees warmer and a lot dryer than normal March weather so i need to get outside.

cheers and i can usually be found in the old tools section and on the vise thread because i kinda like those too.
