Hi all,
I've been lurking here for several years but finally decided to join so I could see all the pics and post some questions. It amazes me the amount of knowledge and skill on this site.
Okay, so my shop - I have a 24x35 stickbuilt shop that was here when we bought the house ten years back. It was built by the PO as a woodshop, but it shares the driveway with the house and has a 16' door on the front and a manual 8' rollup out to the back yard. It's a poured slab with 8' ceilings wired for 110 and 220 on its own panel, and has some storage in the attic. The interior is finished in chipboard, and it's generally a pretty nice place to be. There are some age issues - cracks in the concrete, leaking door sills, etc, but my biggest problem has been lack of organization and a plan. Over the past year I've started changing that, and I'm making good progress. My only real disappointment in the shop is that it's not tall enough to put in a two post lift. As an inside joke, the shop is Big Dave's Hot Rod Speed Shop. I designed a logo for it years ago when I considered actually opening a speed shop.
I enjoy wrenching on and cars, and I'm teaching myself welding and do basic metalwork. I'm also an avid mountain and road biker, so there are a bunch of bicycles hanging out in various states of use and repair as well.
I've spent the last couple months setting up my metalwork area, and my next project is to push for a little more organization and clean out the dirty corners. I'd also like to move my air compressor outside and plumb an air system overhead down the center of the shop, but it may be a while before I get to that.
I don't believe in a shop where you can eat off the floors, but not tripping on stuff is nice. And, although there may be a couple chairs to take a break in and some memorabilia on the wall, this is not a lounge, it's a workplace. If you call it a man cave, I'll attack you with an angle grinder.
