I am planning my new garage/shop, I currently have a 24x36 detached and have simply run out of room. My plans are for a 36x54 with a 12' loft on one end. This would give me a footprint 2.5 times larger than current, and with the loft area that would be 3 times larger square footage floor area. I realize the full height in the loft would not be equal to below but utilizing some of the extra height to increase storage.
Plans are to go ahead this spring. Unfortunately the only spot i have is where my current detached garage is locate right now. It has some slab/block issues as well as poor drainage from the building. It is also located a little too close to my house so my plans are to move it 10-20 feet further away as well. I have access to all the dirt moving equipment so site prep is not going to be an issue.
What i do with the existing garage is up in the air yet. My feeling is to get it out of the way in one way or the other and build the building size i need and have everything under one roof.
I came across this forum and looked at it a little bit and became convinced rather quickly that it will be a very valuable resource in helping me plan, explore new ideas, and ask for input. Thanks for having me and TYIA for all the great wealth of information this forum wil provide.
