Hello from Chicago

Hi - I've been lurking about the threads here for a while and finally got up the nerve to post. I am the consummate weekend warrior - I work in a bank during the week, so I am a desk jockey 60 hrs a week, but I like to try to do my stuff around the house and engage in projects when I can. I'd like to eventually start doing some woodworking as well, but I think I am going to try and do it with hand tools instead of power tools. I'll post pictures of my quasi-organized garage soon, but I am looking forward to gleaning knowledge from everyone to make the garage not only a good workshop but a great and efficient overall storage room.

Welcome. I am (reluctantly) on the south side of Chicago. We're in a condo with no garage, so I make do with the space we have. We're hoping to escape the south side pretty soon and find ourselves in Evanston.

Welcome from another transplant! Grew up in Hyde Park in the 60's..Fortunately my Dad bought some land and built a house in McHenry Co where I lived until I got the Hell out of Ill in 79..

I'm at the corner of 65th & Blackstone, near Hyde Park. My wife bought this place just before we met. Had I known her at the time of purchase, I would have advised against it. Just too close to gangland.

Thundermug, curious if you see things getting better/worse. The police chief made big hay over decreased homicides, but I'm too far north to really tell if, in the areas on the south side,a difference is really being seen?

before we moved to Wonder Lake, we lived at Hyde Park Blvd and Blackstone. The old Picadilly Hotel.Lived there during the Big Snow in 1967.
