Hi gang,

Been lurking for a few months and have learned a ton. I came here from the Zcar.com forums, and as you can guess I will be starting on a nice little home to a couple of Datsun Z cars and eventually a vintage 1944 WillysMB Jeep. I plan on a 4-place, carriage style barn/shop, going DYI as much as possible once a slab is down. I tried a few searches, but no luck.

Is there some FAQ thread that I am blindly overlooking to find out things like:

1 - best place to shop for plans
2 - ways to estimate costs
3 - etc. You know, basic questions a noob in the planning phase would have

Thanks again, and I am looking forward to getting to know this garage gang and learning more.

Randy

I was in the same boat... I ended up talking with a guy at a local lumber yard (not a big box store). He walked me through making an estimate... explaining each part and why I needed it. I missed a few things as can be expected, but overall it turned out quite well. As far as a plan I just made my own, but I also had a very basic layout.

Hey Randy, I live in Edmond, actually, north of Edmond in Logan County a couple miles.

You can email me or just post here, I work as a CAD draftsman, so I should be able to help you draw up whatever you're wanting. I've been in construction for a number of years and can help with materials estimates (did that at Payless Cashways before they went out of business), but I don't have any idea of labor costs. I think I have a book at work I can look those up in though. I do know a good contractor from when I was at Payless that does Polebarns if you're interested in one of those.
