Hello from Elk Grove, CA (Sacramento area)

Hi everyone. I'm in the midst of getting a detached garage built and found this site. What a great place with lots of great ideas! Glad to be a member and I hope to learn a lot and share what I can.

A bit on the garage being built that brought me here.
My wife and I bought an old house built in 1898 two years ago because we needed a bigger place and my wife fell in love with the coved ceilings and chandeliers. There was no garage so the deal was that I get to build a garage if she gets her chandeliers. With the space we have, I ended up deciding on a 20x30 detached garage as there was no graceful place to attach one to the house. Plans and permits took over 6 months but the build is happening very quickly. I now combing the site for ideas on garage door options, wall insulation, attic ideas, and all the other fun stuff.

Justin, Probably too late, but run as many conduits and PVC lines underground as you can think of places you'll need power or anything, before slab is poured. A drain point or points in the floor is nice to have and deep reinforced concrete. Never know where a lift might be put...!

Thanks for the ideas Scott. I had 3 large conduits put in place before the slab and stem wall were poured so hopefully they will cover future needs. No drains so that’d have to go through a wall if I ever decide to add any sort of plumbing. As for the lift, that would be amazing but I don’t see that happening.
