Hello fellows, first i have to apologise my writing skills, not that good in english..
I am more a guy that likes to be in the background and let the others do the talking, have been registered on some forums for years, and posted nothing..
Found this forum years ago, have read many nice building projects and got plenty of good tips and ideas for my own garage.

Finally had the possibility to start building my own garage last spring, and hopefully get it finished in a couple of months. Can't wait to start other projects in there, something that doesn't involve sanding walls or painting the roof..

Joni: your English is fine or Google or spell check corrected it. anyway my step-gramps was born in Finland and i'm 100% Norwegian living on west coast of US so always interested in seeing things from the "old country" as i call it.

any chance you might want to post a few pictures of that garage you built on this first thread of yours?

glad you finally made your first post and i watched and read for maybe 6 years or somewhere in that range before i joined and started asking questions and answering ones i had some clue about.

cheers

Thanks Olliboll and drivesitfar, here's a few pictures..

Outer dimensions in metric ( sorry about that.. :) ) about 17.5m x 8m, the garage is appr.10x8 including the parts, changing, etc.room. Inner height is 3m, two 2.5x2.75m doors, a hole in the floor for a scissorlift, enough outlets, water..

Joni: that is some garage/shop. very nice. is the room in the back an office you can heat easier or a bathroom?

i'm sure that you'll have fun filling that up and make a plan before you start otherwise it's hard to start over.

again welcome and your area looks very nice where you live.:thumbup:

Originally it was ment to be a warehouse for misc. stuff, shovels, gardening tools and bunch of stuff you never need.. during building i changed my plans, made a door opening for a fire-proof door ( local building law's insist that..) i'm going to store parts, paints and other tools you don't need often, in there. And probably also a bunch of stuff i never need.. There will be also a corner for the compressor and a place where i can change workclothes for something little cleaner before going back to the house. The girlfriend was thrilled about that, no more hanging dirty clothes at the sauna.. :)

This is a nice place to live, countryside. Nearest neighbours live 350m from us, fields around and a old powerline, so no one will build next to us. But only a 15 min. drive from the nearest big supermarket. I like it, i can still remember the first morning drinking coffee outside my house, after moving in.

Joni: sounds like you are living the dream sir. i have a water view off the back of my house which is pretty nice, but i also have a half dozen (6) neighbors front doors within 150 feet (50 meters) of my front door.

one day we will move and hopefully not in a pine box if you know what i mean. here's a few pics of my view in case you might want to see my part of the US. also popped in a few pictures of Seattle, Wa. and some with snow since it's raining today.

have any questions yet or are you still just reading and looking around?

cheers

Welcome, Joni. I was in your country during week 2 -- nice fresh snow and temperatures around 0°C. Not bad!

I've been all over Finland but normally visit the area around Jväskylä. Where in Finland are you?

Thanks rburke65 and 4xdog!

We live close to the South Coast, in Kotka, that`s about 250km from Jyväskylä. Yes, it`s a familiar sign, don`t see elks too often near us, altough last winter we had 3 of them looking in trough our kitchen window. :)

drivesitfar, that looks very nice, especially the mountain view! I understood the pinebox-part.. :) Thanks, i`ll think i can manage from here, no questions on my mind right now.

Just uploading a bunch of pictures to photobucket, maybe i`ll make a thread of the garage later this week. If nothing else, it might help me improve my english.

Replyed a longer version earlier, the computer said NO, so this will have to do for now.
