Hello all. Seems I've referenced this board in the past and found it valuable, decided to join based on what I hope will be a future shop build and subsequent work to organize it with my ever growing collection of tools and equipment.

I've outgrown a extremely limited space and have accumulated many things more appropriately used in a proper shop. I've been frequently limited in my projects due to lack of a proper workspace, and it's led to many frustrations. I've been mulling on it for years but not quite settled on what I want vs. what I can afford.

I primarily do vehicle work, mechanic type stuff and some custom fabrication. I have a total of 4 off road vehicles, and yes I guess I do have a problem. 2 of those are back burner "maybe one day" vehicles, a pair of early Ford Bronco's that I attempted to work on and ultimately failed at mostly due to, well, no good place to work.

My main vehicle and the focus of many projects is a late model Nissan Xterra with significant modifications for off road ventures and camping, and is possibly a never ending project in itself. I also have a stock 3rd generation Toyota 4runner, with well over 250k miles and while in excellent condition age and wear spare nothing mechanical. It is my favorite vehicle for running errands and racking up miles. In the case of both of those I'm convinced the saying "they don't make them like they used to" is very true and keeping those on the road will be a key role of any workspace I hopefully build.

While I doubt whatever I build will truly be as big as I want, it's going to be a struggle to get the most out of what size I can afford. I've made a few feeble stabs at designing my floor plan, and while I'm experienced in using CAD and can make drawings, when I get to the details of where modifying the design can save cost or complexity and keep my goals, I start to get into things I don't readily know where to find the answers. At some point perhaps I'll start threads asking those kinds of things when I think I have a good handle on the overall dimensions I want and maybe an good basic layout. I'm more into mechanical stuff, when it comes to construction and building materials I'm not so well versed in my options.

And that's already a grossly long winded intro. Perhaps I'll venture out of the intro board now and see what you all have built.
